This wonderful original lithograph is from the French Art “Magazine Derrière Le Miroir (Behind the Mirror) published by Aime Maeght between 1946 and 1982. The Galerie Maeght in Paris since 1945, exhibited and promoted names such as Bonnard, Matisse, Leger, Steinberg, Chagall, and Kandinsky and many others. The magazine itself was designed as an art object sumptuously presented in a large format, illustrated with original lithographs as well as a number of reproductions. The magazine was not bound so that you could display or frame the original lithographs. In the industry it is simply known as DLM. I purchased a large lot of DLM’s among other art magazines from the estate of Churchill P. Lathrop (1900-1996). He spent most of his career at Dartmouth College where he served as a Professor of Art History, Art Librarian, Director of the Art Galleries. He was a very artistically forward thinking man and he brought the Mexican Muralist Jose’ Clemente Orozco to Dartmouth for two years to Paint the 24 panels and 3200 square foot mural “Epic of American Civilization” which is the crown jewel at Dartmouth. The Lithograph is in excellent condition and measures 15” x 22”. Marc Chagall (1887-1985) was a French/Russian artist whose work is known throughout the world. Please note this large print was originally folded for publication but does not affect the print.
