This is an original woodblock print from Harper’s Weekly, May 19, 1860. This is a great print showing the 1860 Republican Convention which was held in Chicago on May 16-18. It was held to nominate the Republican Party’s Candidates for President and Vice President. Representative Abraham Lincoln of Illinois was chosen for President and Senator Hannibal Hamlin of Maine for Vice President. Senator William Seward of New York had been considered the front-runner. Lincoln won the nomination after a series of 3 ballots. The print is 160 years old. It is in good condition for its age. It has some mild toning and I have reinforced the center fold line on the reverse with archival rice paper tape where there were pinholes from the original binding. A great piece of history.
