This is an original woodblock print from Harper’s Weekly dated April 21, 1860. This print depicts the front-runners for the Democratic Nomination for President and Vice President, This convention held from April 23 - May 3 in Charleston failed to nominate a ticket. A second convention held in Baltimore on June 18 was boycotted by many southern states but did nominate Senator Stephen Douglass of Illinois. The Southern States had their own convention and nominated then Vice President John Breckinridge. While both Douglass and Breckinridge won a fair amount of the popular vote it was not enough to beat Abraham Lincoln. The 160 year old print is in good condition with some mild age-toning and the center crease where is was bound has some pinholes and I have reinforced it on the reverse with archival rice paper tape.
